Academics

AISA offers a current U.S. standards–based curriculum which incorporates the acquisition of concepts and the development of skills for students in preschool through Grade 12. The standards which guide our curriculum development are those recommended by professional organizations in the United States. All instruction, with the exception of foreign language classes, is presented in English. The school conducts standardized tests annually to ensure the quality of the education received by the students, using the NWEA MAP Growth Tests for students in Grades 2-10. The high school students take the PSAT, SAT, and AP exams.

Our students represent over forty countries. Many are speakers of other languages, in addition to English.  Therefore, AISA places strong emphasis on the development of English language skills with K-8 instruction based on the Teachers College Units of Study in phonics, reading, and writing while also offering English as an Additional Language classes. Our Social Studies curriculum is global in scope and its primary goal is to help our students become knowledgeable and effective citizens of the world. In Science and Mathematics, there is an emphasis on developing problem-solving skills and applying the scientific method through experimentation.

In addition to the four core subjects of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, students receive instruction in the Visual and Performing Arts, Design Technology, World Languages, and Physical Education and Health. We are committed to providing students with a comprehensive educational program that is based on the latest research in education and utilizes the most up-to-date methods and materials.
